What comes first?

Your coffee? Your instaGram? Your kids?

As we begin this Summer Bible Challenge, let’s start there.  What comes first – in your day, in your life, in your marriage? Today, on Day 1 I want us to rest in that question. Let’s really consider what we put first.

1 Chronicles 16:25 says

Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods. (NLT)
For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is also to be feared above all gods. (NKJV)

What a perfect place to start. Our God is intended to be ABOVE ALL in our lives. How easy it is to let other things slip in to that place of prominence. There in lies the purpose of this Challenge:

  • Let’s refocus on God (not our problems)
  • Let’s start each day with His perspective (instead of our own feelings)
  • Let’s watch Him change our hearts as wives (so that we can love as He loves)

Our God is above all. He is intended to hold to highest position – in all things, including in our marriages. This word “above” means upon, above or over. And, its root is the word alah which means to climb. Today, on Day One of our challenge I’d like to ask you to keep this in mind. Literally, think of placing this intentional time with God each day above all that is in your schedule. Let, this time of reflection, be your preference above all your other to-do’s. Choose to focus your mind and your heart and your soul on who God is above all. Read, learn, ponder, and journal all about Him. And, watch as the things of this world grow dim in comparison to the greatness of our God.

  • Let the power of His Name be placed “upon” every area of your marriage.
  • Pray Scripture “over” all the struggles you and your husband are facing.
  • Place Him “above” all other things that distract and detour you from drawing near to your mate.
  • “Climb” above everything that weighs you down, and rest in the fullness of who He is.

As we go, the enemy would love to distract us. My prayer for us today is that we would not just start strong but that we would finish the race. I want to take all that He is and place it right in the middle of my marriage.  Let us fix our eyes on Him for 26 days.  Let’s keep pushing on so that we can grow all along the way. Let’s cheer each other on as we journey by sharing our thoughts. Let’s stop and refresh ourselves in the sweet promises of the Lord. Let Him be the most desired pit stop of our race each day. Let’s go, ladies!

I pray that you will read along with me over the next 26 days. Give God 15 minutes a day and see what He does in your heart.  Here is today’s Scripture passages: 1 Chronicles 15:1-16:36, Romans 1:18-32, Psalm 10:1-15, Proverbs 19:6-7 (Click here to read on the go.)

Question of the day:  What do I allow to step in front of God in my marriage? (in my time, my priorities, my thoughts, my feelings, my insecurities – BE SPECIFIC)

Prayer for you and I –

Father God, Help us to understand that You alone are ABOVE ALL. Keep our hearts and minds focused on this truth so that we can rest within it. As wives, teach us to submit to You so that we can walk in Your ways. Guide us with Your Truth. Replace our weakness with Your strength. Build us into the wives you intend for us to be. AMEN!
